HCC TRiO Student Support Services received $5,000 above request for scholarships
Sep 23, 2014
During the HCC Foundation Board Meeting held on September 4, the TRiO-Student Support Services Program (TRiO) at HCC Central was awarded funds in support of students enrolled in the program. The HCC program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide support services to 200 low-income, first-generation, and disabled students.
The TRiO program design encourages and supports eligible students through a structured program that includes personalized services such as tutoring, supportive guidance and counseling, academic advising, college success workshops, university field trips, technology and financial literacy.
The TRiO Student Support Services Scholarship will provide funds for scholarships to be awarded to eligible TRiO members who meet the program requirements and maintain satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship funds will also be used as a recruiting incentive for new TRiO members and to help demystify the scholarship process that many low-income, first-generation students may find intimidating.
The HCC Foundation Board awarded $10,000, an increase from the original ask of $5,000, to establish the TRIO Student Support Services Scholarship. The Foundation Board is dedicated to serving the students of HCC and identifying scholarship opportunities in support of student success.
