HCC Adult Education Program included in statewide consortium for Texas Research-based Adult Instruction Network for Professional Development
Jan 14, 2015
In the Fall of 2014, the Houston Community College (HCC) Adult Education Program was included by Texas A&M University’s (TAMU) Texas Center for Adult Literacy and Learning (TCALL) in successful grant application for the Texas Research-based Adult Instruction Network for Professional Development (TRAIN PD) funded through the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Led by TCALL, the TRAIN PD is designed to take advantage of the expertise of local programs that are recognized as having made exceptional contributions to professional development in the field of Adult Education. This model is a dramatic reconfiguration relative to earlier statewide practices and is intended to improve consistency, uniformity and quality of the core proficiencies necessary for Adult Education faculty, administrators and paraprofessionals.
Along with TCALL and HCC, an additional six community colleges make up the statewide TRAIN PD consortium. The other members of the TRAIN PD Consortium include: Alamo Colleges, Austin Community College, College of the Mainland, El Paso Community College, South Texas College, and Tarrant Community College District. Although they may provide support to any provider across the state, each consortium member is assigned to support the professional development needs of Adult Education providers in particular Workforce Board Areas (WBA). The WBAs assigned to HCC include North Texas, North East, East Texas and Texoma.
The TRAIN PD project award to HCC amounts to $111,151 and supports one professional and one paraprofessional position.
