HCC donates over 200 pounds of food to Souper Bowl of Caring

Each day, roughly 66,000 people in Houston go hungry. To help our surrounding communities in need, Houston Community College (HCC) joined forces with the Souper Bowl of Caring, for the second year in a row to beat hunger. The Souper Bowl of Caring, a national initiative to mobilize young people to fight hunger in their local area, utilizes Super Bowl weekend to help feed as many families as possible by stocking the shelves of local food pantries.

HCC donated 217 pounds of food to the campaign this year. The college chose East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, a local food pantry that serves over 33,000 residents on the Southwest side; to deliver the food items to needy families during the three-week collection period. The Souper Bowl of Caring also collects monetary donations. Every dollar donated provides recipients three meals a day. This year so far, nearly $10 million in cash and food items have been reported. 100 percent of that winds up at local charities across the country.

HCC, the Souper Bowl of Caring, and East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry thanks everyone who participated in this year’s food drive. It is important HCC students, faculty and staff continue to join forces to help families in need within the communities we serve.
