HCC celebrates Spirit Week
Mar 8, 2016
From sporting events to a pep rally, the Houston Community College (HCC) Spirit Week offered something for everyone. The fun-filled week of activities had one goal - for all HCC students, faculty and staff to display their eagle pride and support those involved in RecSports.
Students who participated in the various activities got the chance to win HCC T-shirts, dance with the HCC cheerleaders, play flag football and compete in a soccer tournament. The week began with everyone donning school colors, black and gold, around campus. Students played yard games to win Mardi Gras beads on Fat Tuesday and participated in a pep rally at the West Loop campus.
The games were spread out all over the Houston area, which gave all HCC students a chance to participate. The student versus teacher basketball game tipped off at the Fort Bend YMCA, the Women’s Volleyball team played in Kingwood, and the Basketball Tournament and Skills Challenge was a slam dunk at the Alief YMCA.
Spirit Week exposes HCC students to the athletics community. Students get the opportunity to explore the different types of sports HCC offers, without having to commit to a team, which takes up time each week in practices and games.
The students who participated all looked at Spirit Week as an opportunity to build their network, develop new friendships, and test their skills on the field to see if they have what it takes to play at the collegiate level.
