Former ITT Tech student chooses HCC

“Will another college accept my credits? Can I transfer my financial aid? Who can I talk to about my degree plan?” These are just a few of the questions hundreds of ITT Tech students asked themselves after the private college closed its doors. Paul Smith is one of those students, and he found all the answers at Houston Community College (HCC).

“When I heard that ITT was closing, my first reaction was that I had wasted my time going to school and trying to better myself,” said Smith. “I lost my motivation.”

Like most of his classmates, Smith wanted to continue his education but found that many colleges would not accept transfers from ITT Tech. One phone call to HCC made all the difference.

“I thought I was going to miss a semester or two since so many students were in the same position,” he added. “But I came to HCC and the staff helped me. They were quick about it.”

“HCC staff is working diligently to accommodate ITT Tech students who reach out about transferring,” said Dr. Athos Brewer, vice chancellor, Student Services. “Our financial aid staff is here to assist all prospective students with any questions they may have about course transfer, financial aid, and career advising.”

Since enrolling at HCC, Smith has changed his program focus from electrical engineering to biomedical engineering and is excited about his future.
