HCC Engineering partnership wins 2015 Innovation of the Year award

The University of Texas-Tyler and Houston Community College's Engineering the Future collaboration has earned the 2015 Innovation of the Year award. The collaboration provides students an innovative four-year engineering degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, costing less than $19,000, located at HCC’s Alief Hayes campus. The leaders who made this happen are Zachary Hodges, Butch Herod, Mark Tiller and Bart Sheinberg.

The partnership offers a high caliber engineering program to support the community and meet the demand for highly-skilled workers in the engineering field. With a very diverse student demographic, there are currently 1,048 declared Associate of Science Engineering Science (ASES) degree majors for the Spring of 2015, which is double the program enrollment of 549 in Spring 2014.

The League’s Innovation of the Year award showcases significant innovations at its member colleges. The award is designed to recognize innovative programs, practices, partnerships, policies and activities at an institution to which it improves the quality and ability to serve students and the community. By receiving this award, it provides a platform to show how these innovations and the dedicated community college educators strive for excellence on a daily basis.
