Jan 30, 2015

A traditional Bollywood dance by former Houston Community College student Supriya Sharma kicked off the HCC-ASPIRE reception at the Junior League of Houston.

ASPIRE, which stands for Asian Scholarship Program Inspiring Results and Excellence honors the Asian heritage and the educational pursuits and scholastic achievements of Asian students and faculty at HCC.

Nearly 100 guests, including community leaders, corporate executives, elected officials, members of the HCC Board of Trustees, and donors attended the event that raises scholarship money for deserving students.

“We are grateful to our numerous sponsors and volunteers who have contributed to HCC-ASPIRE program and continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and faculty members,” said Neeta Sane, HCC Board of Trustees, District VII and founder of HCC-ASPIRE.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing from Bryan Faustino, a 2014-2015 HCC-ASPIRE scholarship recipient who is working toward his Associate degree in nursing at Coleman College for Health Sciences.

Faustino, who has a 3.5 GPA, said, “for me, the ASPIRE scholarship is more than just financial assistance, it’s validation that I am on the right track.”

HCC-ASPIRE’s next event is a luncheon to honor the scholarship recipients and donors on March 6 at the Junior League of Houston. For information on the HCC-ASPIRE program, visit hccs.edu/aspire.
