HCC and Loyola University New Orleans sign transfer agreement
Jan 26, 2015
Houston Community College students pursuing Bachelor’s degrees have another cost-saving option to help them complete the process.
A new partnership between HCC and Loyola University New Orleans will allow students who complete their core courses at HCC to transfer seamlessly to the four-year university. Students can apply their credits to any field of their choice beginning in the Fall 2015 semester.
“This creates a pathway that has not been available to students before,” said Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC chancellor. “The agreement with Loyola demonstrates that HCC is a powerful player in positioning them for success.”
HCC is excited to be the first community college in Texas to have this type of 2 + 2 articulation agreement with Loyola University New Orleans.
“Community colleges have become such a hub of innovative education experience,” said Roberta Kaskel, vice president of enrollment management at Loyola University New Orleans. “Even families who have the means, academically and financially, are choosing to build a foundation first at community colleges.”
Kaskel says students who take advantage of the partnership will receive guaranteed junior status and will automatically be considered for a merit-based scholarship at Loyola University New Orleans. The amount will vary with their grade point averages.
HCC already has a thriving partnership with the University of Texas at Tyler that is tailored to engineering. The program allows HCC students the opportunity to complete a two-year Associate of Science in Engineering Science (ASES) at the Alief-Hayes Road Campus of HCC Northwest College then transfer to the UT Tyler Engineering Program in the same location. The cost is considerably lower than traditional options and the hands-on learning can continue.
