Houston Community College hosted a large group of students from Bellaire Senior High School and delivered invaluable information about programs offered, as well as gave a tour of the West Loop Campus.

“There are a lot of good programs for students who have talent,” Bellaire student Faidh Alani said. “I would like to do manufacturing. It seems like a good program here. I learned about what you could do after you finish the program.”

Students bumped into the Digital and Information Technology Center of Excellence Director Doug Rowlett during the tour. He gave them an overview of the many programs and highlighted ones like cyber security and digital gaming and simulation.

Mark Sarr, a senior at Bellaire plans to go into the military after graduation and would like to use the advantages of the G.I. Bill to go college once he finishes his tours. His visit to HCC has given him reason to consider enrolling once he returns.

“HCC is rich and has a lot to offer,” Sarr said. “A lot of people at my school want to go to universities and don’t think about HCC because it’s not that popular. After coming here to day, I realized you could come here to start off. It has a lot to offer. I think it’s pretty good.”

Bellaire guidance counselor Lauren Rizzoli said she learned just as much about the opportunities provided at HCC as her students did. She will be able to use that information in the future.

“They can do so much more than just their associates or their basics,” Rizzoli said. “I learned about all the technical schools that are provided and the time that those certificates take to complete. I think that was really good for them to hear and for me to learn”
