Community Connections: Advancing workforce training opportunities at HCC Stafford and Missouri City Campuses

Houston Community College Southwest is pleased to announce that it is securing the future of Houston’s workforce, by adding programs and facilities designed for just that. The college is finalizing plans for new campus buildings dedicated solely to workforce certification programs resulting in high-demand, well-paid employment.‌

Groundbreaking for the new workforce-specific building at HCC Southwest’s Missouri City Campus will begin in October 2014, followed by projects at the Stafford Campus. Notably, the new workforce programs include Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and are rounded out by health sciences, entrepreneurship and manufacturing – all the fields of demand for now and the future.

Plans are underway for the construction of the Missouri City Center for Entrepreneurship, Technology and Health (CETH). The 60,000-square-foot building will house economic development, small business management, accounting and technology programs, as well as a Healthcare Career Academy. The academy will offer training in nursing, medical assisting, respiratory therapy, retail pharmacy, health information technology and mental health programs.

To introduce the upcoming Center for Entrepreneurship and Health (CETH), HCC Southwest Missouri City Campus hosted a meet and greet for community leaders, representatives and local businesses Wednesday, May 7.

The dynamic Stafford Workforce Building will include a 108,000-square-foot structure housing manufacturing, drafting and fabrication, IT, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), welding, pipe-fitting, plumbing and electrical programs.

The programs are made possible by a $425 million bond referendum that voters approved in November 2012.
