Doris Larry recognized as Adult Education Teacher of the Year

Doris Larry, an instructor for the Houston Center for Literacy, was recognized as Adult Education Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of Literacy and Adult Educators (TALAE) at its recent state conference held April 10-13 in Dallas.

Doris has taught in Adult Education for more than 20 years. She is known for her use of innovative teaching strategies, her unlimited energy, and for ensuring that her students accomplish their personal dreams and educational goals. Additionally, Doris received an honorarium of $1,000 from the Commission On Adult Basic Education (COABE) which held its 2016 national conference jointly with this year's TALAE state conference.

The Adult Education Program at Houston Community College leads a consortium of high profile nonprofit organizations including the Houston Center for Literacy the mission of which is to improve the education attainment rate by adult learners in Houston.
