HCC’s Houston Reconnect Initiative opens doors for former students

HCC students smile after receiving diplomas at a recent graduation.

Are you 25 years or older and finished college short of completing a workforce certificate or associate degree?

Houston Community College (HCC), now known as Houston City College, wants you back! And the college’s Houston Reconnect Initiative makes it possible with a scholarship designed to support students financially who are close to completion. A college certificate or degree helps students earn more, get a promotion into higher levels of responsibility and more.

The scholarship is available for students who are 25 years or older, have earned a 2.5 grade point average  at HCC, have been out of college one year but less than five, earned 15 credit hours toward a credential of value or earned 45 credits toward a workforce associate’s degree, and have no outstanding debt with the college.

The Houston Reconnect Scholarship pays tuition and fees to help recipients complete their unfinished certificate or degree with three semesters or fewer.

To apply, request information at hcc.reconnect@hccs.edu.

Applicants will receive an email from HCC with hyperlinks to an intake form, Apply Texas, and a video describing funding opportunities and orientation options. Students will attend an in-person or virtual onboarding session and meet with a Reconnect Navigator to hear about the program, be guided through the enrollment process and registered for classes.

“This is HCC’s way of helping students whose academic studies were interrupted by work or life issues to restart their education and fulfill their aspirations,” said HCC Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. “Our goal is to help every student complete and succeed.”
