Why did you enroll at HCC Coleman College?
When I decided to pursue Dental Hygiene, I knew I wanted to do so through a community college. Ultimately, I applied to the Dental Hygiene program at HCC Coleman College due to its excellent National Board Exam passing rate.

Why did you choose your program of study?
I was a pediatric dental assistant for about 8 years, and it allowed me to see how important prevention is when it comes to oral health.

Dental hygienists have a big role on the prevention side of dentistry by not only providing dental cleanings but also educating patients on how to take care of their oral health at home. I knew I wanted to be a part of that.

What do you like best about your college experience?
What I like best about my college experience are the friends I’ve made in my program. We lean on and encourage each other. It’s nice to have friends that know exactly what you’re going through.

What do you like best about your program of study?
I like how hands-on the Dental Hygiene program is. You start seeing public patients your second semester, and that allows you to practice your skills and get better.

When you are tired, what motivates you to push forward?
My biggest motivation is my family. I have a four-year-old son who sees how hard I work, and I want to set an example for him. My husband has supported me and believed in me every step of the way.

Knowing that once I graduate I’ll be able to provide a better future for all of us is what keeps me going.

What advice can you offer to help other students succeed?
My biggest advice would be to have good time management skills. Have a planner and plan out your study sessions and assignments. Be disciplined, but also take time to rest.

Any final thoughts?
Although it hasn’t been easy, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Dental Hygiene program at HCC Coleman College.
