May 4, 2020
HCC was a force to be reckoned with at this year’s Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) Convention. The association held its annual convention April 23-25 via Zoom.
HCC Northwest won in four of the statewide award categories and in two of the three regional award categories, setting a new record for the college. Among the winners were HCC NW SGA Adviser Dominique Brown (Adviser of the Year for Region V) and Grace Ndwuko (Student of the Year for Region V). The two also won third place in their respective categories at the state level. Additional HCC NW winners included the Katy Creative Writing Club (third place for Poem of the Year) and the Census Action Day Video (third place for Video of the Year).
HCC NW Student Life Coordinator and SGA Adviser Dominique Brown is proud of all the award winners and is now looking forward to the election of the new SGA officers coming soon. Brown said this will be the first year that officers are elected.
“In the past the officers were appointed. Students applied and were then appointed after an extensive interview process,” she said. “This year all our officers will be elected by Northwest students.” Virtual elections will be held on May 7 and 8 and the winners will be announced on May 12.
TJCSGA is an association of all junior colleges and technical schools in the state of Texas, with more than 60 colleges participating in this year’s event.
