The Houston Blues Society and HCC Central President Dr. Muddassir Siddiqi are presenting the premiere of Our Great Day: A Bond With Houston Blues, 2 p.m., Saturday, June 22, in the auditorium in the San Jacinto Memorial Bldg. at HCC Central, 1300 Holman St., Houston, TX 77004.

The documentary pays tribute to the rich, African-American blues heritage in Houston by tracing the unlikely relationship between a cast of colorful characters and a Chicago-born photographer who lives in Ireland. It was directed and produced by HCC Central's web developer and noted documentary producer Ruben Duran with a storyline from retired HCC Central English professor and celebrated local music historian Roger Wood.

The primary focus is a 1998 reunion of almost 80 musicians for a group portrait staged in HCC Central's Theatre One (formerly Temple Beth Israel.) The larger story blends diverse elements of local history - from musical, socioethnic, entrepreneurial and architectural perspectives - with blues performances, interviews and personal reflections of a photographer and his transatlantic connection to the original blues people of Houston.

Free admission and free parking in the HCC Central garage at La Branch and Winbern.
