HCC Northeast Campus hosts industry truck rodeo
May 20, 2019
The Roland Smith Commercial Truck Driver Training facility served as the host location for the annual Houston Council of Safety Professionals Truck Driving Championship on Saturday, May 18. The event attracts professional drivers and their families from major companies across the Houston area where they enjoy the competition, food provided by the host companies, and awards.
Northeast College is an ideal location for the competition due to its expansive campus and proximity for many companies in the trucking industry. The competition provides an opportunity to showcase the training facilities, programs, and strengthens relationships with industry leaders hiring HCC students.
Drivers from a variety of companies including Walmart, HEB, YRC, ConWay, CVS, United Parcel Service, and FedEx compete in various driving obstacle courses and are judged on their driving skills and safety. Winners ultimately move on to a national competition hosted by the American Trucking Association.
President Monique Umphrey welcomed company representatives, drivers and their families to the Northeast Campus and stressed the importance of building strong partnerships. The Roland Smith Commercial Truck Driver program partners in a variety of ways to fulfill the demands of the trucking industry. For more information, visit hccs.edu/northeastcollege.
