YMCA Back to School Bash at HCC Northeast Campus a big hit
Aug 7, 2018
More than 300 community members visited the Houston Community College Northeast Campus for the YMCA Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 4 to pick up nearly 200 backpacks filled with school supplies. NFL and NBA sports Legends joined in on the celebration where they signed autographs and took photos with community members and offered sports tips to youth.
Retired sports legends from the National Basketball Retired Players Association and the NFL included former Houston Texans player Wade Smith, retired NBA players Alex Sanders, Lorenzo Johnson and Reggie Dixon of the Harlem Globetrotters, Rodney McCray and Thomas Henderson of the Houston Rockets and Mel Hughlett of the Seattle Supersonics. The bash offered fall registration assistance and career information provided by the Public Safety, Global Energy and Automotive Centers of Excellence.
In addition to the YMCA backpack giveaway, We See Abilities provided shoes to children and youth in need. YMCA partners and HCC staff donated the backpacks and school supplies that were distributed primarily to pre-registered students from the North Forest community and to others from surrounding communities.
