Small business owners complete Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program at HCC

The 21st cohort of small business owners received certificates of completion of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Houston Community College during a ceremony at the HCC Alief–Hayes Campus April 26.
These business leaders have spent 14 weeks - roughly 100 class hours - at HCC studying a business and management curriculum designed by Babson College and delivered by HCC faculty. The curriculum covered accounting, human resources, negotiations and marketing, among other topics. The program also included one-on-one business advising, financial workshops and advice from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses community partners.

Christina Morales, president of Felix H. Morales Funeral Home and the Morales Memorial Foundation who is an alumna from the program in 2014, shared insights with the new graduates as they begin implementing their business growth plans. She encouraged them to “work on the business, not in the business” by identifying their weaknesses then hiring employees that can compensate for those weaknesses. As a member of the Houston Community College Foundation Board of Directors, Morales reminded the scholars to not forget about their community and to be a mentor to those around them.
Applications for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Houston Community College are accepted on a rolling basis with a deadline of May 24, 2018 for the Fall 2018 Cohort.
