HCC Northeast Campus partners to host Black Girls Code

Houston Community College partnered with Black Girls Code to host the Digital Making workshop at the Northeast Campus. The daylong workshop for girls ages 10 -17 years old was all about the micro-computer and offered a fun and captivating educational experience. The Black Girls Code event provided a unique opportunity for the students to be inspired by females in technology known as Tech Divas. The young future tech divas learned how to animate and program Pi while exploring the theme of digital making in breakout sessions.

Interim president Destry Dokes welcomed 80 participants and parents to the campus via video and provided information on high-tech careers. The HCC Foundation worked with community partners to provide scholarship support for 15 underprivileged youth attending the workshop from the Holland Middle School STEM program located in the Pleasantville community. Director of Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ravi Brahmbhatt worked collaboratively with Black Girls Code to host a series of the technology workshops across HCC. The workshop closed with students receiving certificates of accomplishment and information on upcoming workshops.
