Sarah Elizabeth Stockman, a May graduate from the HCC Honors College-Central, is starting her first week at Wellesley College with a full-ride transfer scholarship.

Although not the first time Honors College students have transferred to Ivy League colleges, Sarah is the first to set her sights on Wellesley. Despite her acceptance to University of Texas and other good schools, Sarah believed that the mission of Wellesley was a better fit for her goals of science research. And Wellesley is a college known for producing strong women who lead significant changes in their respective fields.

After her high school graduation, Sarah danced professionally for seven years. When it was time to begin college, she chose the Honors College, where she maintained her dedication to excellence in all she did, graduating with a perfect 4.0 average while taking many rigorous courses in science. She served as an officer in Phi Theta Kappa and led the initiative to develop a pocket prairie on HCC properties. She sought out science internships in the summer at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Cheryl Peters, Executive Director of the Honors College and also one of her many mentors, believes that Sarah embodies the passion and curiosity we want to develop in all our students. “Is there anything she can’t do?” wonders Peters, and the response is a strong “no.”  Sarah’s drive for self-expansion, for travel, for learning more about the world, for working with other committed team members doing research or projects—this defines our very own Sarah Elizabeth Stockman. We’ll be watching and following her as she demonstrates how HCC can develop high achieving students into national leaders.
