HCC hosts prestigious PrintHouston 2017
Jul 27, 2017
Houston Community College (HCC) Southwest College is alive with art from all over the region, thanks to its participation in PrintHouston 2017. This citywide celebration of printmaking features artists from all over the Gulf Coast area. Southwest College is showcasing Impressions 2017 at the West Loop Campus Art Gallery. It’s an exhibition featuring the work of 24 artist members of PrintMatters.
The newly appointed PrintMatters President, Katherine Rhodes Fields, is also an art instructor at HCC. Because of her vast experiences during her art career, Fields has been able to offer many great opportunities to students taking her print class.
“HCC has been so wonderful, we’ve actually had multiple PrintHouston shows here,” says Fields. “At the Stafford Gallery we will show 30 years of print-making art by HCC students. My students at HCC participate in a carving logs event and this summer some of their art works will be presented inside the Williams Tower Art Gallery.”
HCC is one of three colleges participating in this year’s nationally-recognized PrintHouston 2017 event. The West Loop Art Gallery exhibition showcases a variety of print work, from traditional woodcuts and etchings to explorations with multiple processes and new technologies. PrintMatters is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization started by five artists who have exhibited locally and nationally and all share a love of printmaking.
If you are interested in experiencing these unique works of art, the gallery, located at 5601 West Loop South in Houston, is free and open to the public for viewing through Wednesday, August 31. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
