HCC Automotive COE career fair drives students into the future
Mar 27, 2017
The Houston Community College (HCC) Automotive Center of Excellence (COE) and the Career Planning & Resource Department recently hosted its 2017 “Drive Into Your Future” Automotive Career & Job Fair at the HCC Northeast Automotive Technology Training Center located at 4638 Airline Drive, Houston, TX 77022. Students interested in employment opportunities in automotive repair, diesel repair, collision repair, automotive sales, equipment and parts, as well as other transportation services were able to meet company representatives at the career fair.
The event not only provided recent graduates and current students of the Automotive COE an opportunity to meet and interview with industry partners, but also provided opportunities for HCC students studying in other programs. With resumes in hand, students were able to speak directly with representatives about other areas of their company where opportunities exist. Of the fifteen companies represented at the career fair, most had available positions that didn’t require automotive training but still required a degree or certificate. Additional areas of need included fields such as business administration, logistics, management and sales.
Companies represented at the fair included UPS, CarMax, Brake Check, Old Dominion Trucking Company, Group One, Manheim Automotive, Rush Bush Centers and a range of equipment and collision repair centers. The HCC Career Planning & Resource Department and Automotive COE played an instrumental role in planning and recruiting representatives for the industry-focused fair. “We are excited that event was a huge success and it serves as an added benefit for the students who go through our program,” says Automotive Technology COE Director David Vogel. He also expressed that the targeted career fair exposes the industry to quality of training that is provided by the COE as well as creates new opportunities to partner.
The Automotive COE offers degrees and certificates in automotive technology, auto body and collision repair as well as heavy vehicle and diesel repair. For more information on HCC programs, visit hccs.edu/automotive
