HCC ranks among top community colleges in nation in awarding associate degrees

Houston Community College (HCC) is ranked among the top community colleges in the nation in awarding associate degrees. Community College Week magazine based the latest statistics on information from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System.

Among 1,905 community colleges included in the national review, HCC is ranked:

HCC has also been selected as a recipient of the 2016 INSIGHT Into Diversity “Higher Education Excellence in Diversity” (HEED) Award. The HEED Award is the only national recognition honoring colleges and universities that exhibit outstanding efforts and success in the area of diversity and inclusion throughout their campuses. The HCC student population represents 151 nationalities.

The Student Loan Report has ranked HCC #3 in Best Colleges for Federal Work Study Employment, having placed 739 students in jobs through the Federal Work Study program in 2016. The average amount earned per job was $5,500.

“Our overarching goal has been to transform and position HCC as the leading institution educating Houston’s workforce,” said Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC chancellor. “This has required the unified efforts of administrators, faculty and staff. Our high rankings among community colleges throughout the country prove that we have been successful in achieving that objective.”

HCC Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. Adriana Tamez, acknowledged the value of partnerships in attaining these impressive rankings.

“HCC will continue to leverage its community relationships and resources to focus on student success,” said Tamez.
