HCC officials make list of Houston’s 30 most influential women
Aug 31, 2016
Hundreds of attendees joined in the gala celebration as two prominent figures at Houston Community College were recognized among the 2016 “Top 30 Influential Women of Houston.” Among the awardees were Dr. Kimberly Beatty, HCC Vice Chancellor of Instructional Services and Chief Academic Officer and Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, HCC District IV Trustee and Secretary of the Board.
Dr. Evans-Shabazz, who has a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Doctorate in Education, sees her commitment to Houston Community College as a continuation of a road she began early in her career when she chose education as her vocation. This award serves as the fuel to continue her work.
"I want to express how proud I am to be recognized along with this group of remarkable women. I want to cherish this moment as a celebration of the hard work and perseverance of each one of the honorees,” said Evans-Shabazz.
“Every single one of us strives every day to make a difference in our fields,” Evans-Shabazz added. “I consider myself privileged to have been given the opportunity to impact the lives of so many at Houston Community College.”
Dr. Beatty became part of the HCC family in 2015. Previously, she held high- level positions at Tarrant County College District, where her influence helped shaped the transformation plan. At Virginia’s Tidewater Community College, she collaborated in the construction of a new campus and instituted various academic programs.
Dr. Beatty has found that the impact of her journey keeps her focused on her everyday goal.
“Enhancing the student experience and maximizing the potential of everyone— students, faculty and staff at Houston Community College—is my mission,” said Dr. Beatty. “I want to give a sincere thank you to D-Mars for not only recognizing my work but the work of all the other honorees. This accolade represents a validation of my work and an inspiration to continue pursuing excellence in higher education."
The event is held every year by D-Mars Marketing and Communications to commemorate the diligence, discipline and tenacity of remarkable women in the Houston area.
