HCC Interior Design students ‘make it work’ at Product Runway 2016
Apr 26, 2016
Houston Community College (HCC) Interior Design students have done it again. They won at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) (Texas Oklahoma Chapter) Product Runway event for the third year in a row. The HCC team of Christina Rougerie, Adolfo Castillo, Daniela Gonzalez, Amanda Tharp, Michelle Hedgebeth and Faculty Advisor Kevin Hamby, wowed the judges with their Neo-Classical-themed creation to be crowned “Student Best in Show”.
“This was such a great experience to design and create a dress from our neoclassical challenge and this year, we raised the bar,” said Rougerie.
This year’s event theme for IIDA Product Runway is an avant-garde couture fashion design competition with a twist. Interior design students get the opportunity to create handmade garments out of standard architectural finish materials such as glass, tile, carpet, and wood. This year, the HCC teams used upholstery fabric and mosaic tile to construct their creative creation.
Tharp, who acted as seamstress on the HCC team, felt the honor of competing with talented designers and architects from across the region.
She said, “Getting the design from paper to 3D form using the architectural materials provided was a puzzle and working on a team where each team member provided a unique set of skills ultimately allowed for our successful design.”
The 2016 event was held at Revention Music Center and funds raised benefit the Houston Furniture Bank. To learn more about the HCC Interior Design Program, visit hccs.edu/interiordesign.
