HCC Foundation receives scholarship for Music Business program

A generous gift from The Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society, Inc. (RCJPS) will help students in the Houston Community College (HCC) Media Arts & Technology Center of Excellence fine tune their educational goals.

“We are excited about our partnership with the Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society and the opportunity to work with music industry experts like Sam and Jan Pink, president and executive director of RCJPS,” said Dr. Jimmy L. Adams, Jr., director, HCC Media Arts & Technology Center of Excellence. “Their generous donation to our Center of Excellence will go a long way in offsetting some of the financial costs of student enrolled in our programs.”

The group presented the HCC Foundation with a check for $5,000 during the recent Red Cat Jazz Festival in Galveston. The award will support ten students in the Music Business program to be used for tuition, books, and fees. Each student will receive $500 to be dispersed evenly between the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours per semester and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

“The Red Cat Jazz Preservation Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of jazz. Our recent partnership demonstrates that they care about the community, the arts, and most of all music education for HCC students,” said HCC Foundation Director of Development Deborah Chambers.
