Sep 15, 2016
Texas Zydeco, the award-winning documentary about Houston’s significant contributions to the zydeco musical genre, will be the opening event at the 6th Annual Houston History Alliance Conference, 7 to 10 p.m., Friday, September 30, at the DeLuxe Theater on Lyons Ave. in Houston’s Fifth Ward.
Texas Zydeco was a book written by retired HCC Central English professor and musicologist Dr. Roger Wood. The book was made into a 30-minute documentary, which was directed by Ruben Duran, HCC Central’s Sr. Media Developer.
The project received two Telly Awards, and helped document and crystalize Houston’s connection to the rise of zydeco music in the Bayou City.
Wood and Duran will participate in a talkback with the audience as part of the conference’s opening reception and immediately following the screening.
The three-day HHA conference will explore Houston’s indigenous music and how it reveals the city’s history. For more information about the conference, please go to www.houstonhistoryalliance.org | email: info@houstonhistoryalliance.org or contact Debra McGaughey at debra.mcgaughey@hccs.edu
