Accounting and Cosmetology students earn Nationally Recognized Employability Certificate
Oct 24, 2016
Over 50 students in the Accounting and Cosmetology programs at HCC Northwest sat for the ACT Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) exams last week.
The WorkKeys Department provided funding for students in these programs to earn this valuable certification.
The CRC is a nationally recognized employability credential developed by ACT to validate a person’s workplace skills. It immediately tells an employer that someone has the necessary foundational skills to perform the functions of a job, and is also a great indicator of trainability. The CRC tests a person’s ability to read and understand workplace documents, perform work-related math, and to find and use information presented in graphic form, such as charts, tables, graphs and blueprints.
The US Department of Labor recognizes the CRC as a portable, stackable, industry-recognized certification. It is used in all 50 states.
The CRC is awarded at 4 levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
8 students or 15% of those tested in Accounting and Cosmetology earned a Gold CRC.
According to research conducted by ACT, the skills certified by the CRC are critical to 90 percent of occupations. Having a CRC gives students a distinct advantage over other applicants when applying for jobs.
WorkKeys would like to thank Ercan Sinmaz (Accounting) and Lillian Bassett (Cosmetology) for recognizing the importance of this credential and allowing their students the time to test.
