The Robert Garner Firefighter Academy at Houston Community College recently graduated the Class of 2015 Alpha, which was comprised of 22 dedicated cadets.
“Teamwork is absolutely vital in the fire service,” class leader Will Collins said. “You have to be able to rely on your brother to your left or your sister to your right to perform any of the job duties we are being asked to do.”
The Emergency Medical Services program and the Police Academy also recently held graduation ceremonies.
The U.S. Department of State has selected HCC Intensive English instructor Dr. Trinidad Hernandez for a 10-month Fellowship project at the National Institute of Education in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Hernandez is one of only 165 U.S. citizens selected for the 2015-2016 English Language Fellow Program, a premiere opportunity for highly qualified TESOL professionals to enact meaningful and sustainable changes in the way that English is taught abroad.
“Sri Lanka truly represents the beauty and promise of developing countries in the world today,” Hernandez said. “I look forward to learning a great deal from Sri Lanka and other countries in this fascinating region.”
