New opportunities for HCC VAST Academy students thanks to Trustee Glaser
Jan 13, 2015
An everlasting resource for scholarships to students attending the HCC Vocational Advancement and Social Skills Training (VAST) Academy was initiated by a gift from HCC Trustee Robert Glaser, Secretary, District V to the HCC Foundation in December of 2014.
Trustee Glaser’s contribution of $5,000 was matched with funds from a private donor to create the Glaser Family Endowed Scholarship Fund at the HCC Foundation. After the contributions have matured for a year, the HCC Foundation will begin dispersing the scholarship monies to HCC VAST Academy students who meet the qualifications of the scholarship fund.
The HCC Foundation will award the interest earned on the fund annual to a HCC VAST Academy student(s), leaving Trustee Glaser’s gift as a permanent resource for the students.
The HCC VAST Academy provides comprehensive transition postsecondary certificate programs, pre-college “bridge” course and support services to individuals with disabilities. Students receive reasonable accommodations, counseling, advising, registration assistance, seminars on Job Readiness topics and a Certificate of Completion.
Trustee Glaser’s generosity is a shining example of the leadership he brings to the College in his role on HCC’s governing body in addition to his personal commitment to the success of our students – a commitment which is helping to open doors of opportunity for those that might not otherwise have the chance to attend HCC.
