Students from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Ghana, South Africa and India are spending the next several months at Houston Community College.

They are getting an unforgettable lesson about American education and culture inside and outside the classroom. The 14 men and women are exchange participants in the 2015-2016 Community College Initiative (CCI) Program through the U.S. State Department.

They are strengthening their workforce development skills, English language proficiency, and learning the value of giving back to the community. The students recently gathered at Central College and wore their traditional clothing as part of a class presentation about their countries.

The gregaroius group is having a blast in Houston. So far students have visited Minute Maid Park, Dynamo Stadium, The Houston Zoo, and Space Center Houston. They have also volunteered at area homeless shelters. CCI participants contribute to their U.S. Host communities by helping internationalize their college campuses.

HCC has the largest international population of any community college in the nation with 219 countries represented.
