HCC STEM Summer Camp a success

Through the Houston Community College Governors Merit STEM Summer Program, more than 50 area high school students spent a portion of their summer break learning about robots, solving math problems and visiting science museums.

The campers, 10th and 11th-grade students enrolled in the Houston Independent School District, Fort Bend Independent School District and Stafford Municipal School District, picked up Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based skills that could put them on a career path in a high-demand field.

“This camp has given them the opportunity to study for four weeks on any kind of a degree or career path in the field of STEM,” said Dr. Betty Fortune, the Executive Director of Success and Completion.

During the free, four-week camp, students took field trips to NASA, the Houston Health Museum, HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences, Houston Methodist Research Institute and NOAA.

The program concluded with an exhibit and closing ceremony on July 31 at the West Loop Campus.
