As part of Rockets Science Night, Houston Community College participated in a Lift Off party Friday, March 6 prior to the Rockets' 103-93 victory over the Detroit Pistons at Toyota Center.

HCC Southwest had an array of STEM-related items including a 3D printer and an electrostatic ball on display. HCC mascot Swoop was also there to support the Rockets and pose for photos with students and fans.

Rockets Science is a partnership among HCC, the Rockets, NASA and Space Center Houston that was created to get area middle school students excited about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

HCC is the Official Education Partner of the Houston Rockets.

That partnership took center court before the start of the second quarter of the game when the home team presented the HCC Foundation with a $50,000 check for student scholarships.

The Clutch City Foundation Scholarship is awarded to students who are enrolled in a minimum of six hours of coursework per semester at HCC and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Each student is eligible to receive $1,000 for tuition, fees and books.

“At a time when students are seeking degrees or certifications in STEM studies, the Rockets’ support for HCC students couldn’t have been more timely,” said Mary Williams, first vice president of HCC Foundation Board.

“Receiving $50,000 for scholarships from the Rockets Clutch City Foundation is fabulous for our students,” said Carme Williams, executive director, HCC Foundation. “Tad Brown is making a wonderful investment in the lives of many Houstonians!” For more information on the Clutch City Foundation Scholarship, visit hccsfoundation.org.
