Community Connections: Construction update at HCC Northline Campus
May 7, 2015
Progress is being made on the new instructional/multi-use building and parking garage on the Northline Campus of HCC Northeast. Construction crews have laid the foundation and are working on the concrete siding for the three-story, 476-space garage.
The academic building will include classrooms, labs, art studio, a fitness-training center, a large lecture hall, a bookstore, and student lounge.
The $23.5 million project is part of the HCC Groundbreaker Bond Program. It will add over 48,000-square feet of space to the existing Northline Campus. Construction is projected to be complete in November 2016.
“This brings us yet another step closer to creating a more comprehensive and robust educational center for teaching and learning at the Northline Campus,” said Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher, HCC Northeast president. “Our new facilities will provide much needed academic classroom spaces to meet the high demand for current programs as well as new programs that will prepare students for the workforce.”
The HCC Groundbreaker Bond Program is a $425 million capital improvement program that involves 14 projects across all six colleges, adding state-of-the-art instructional buildings, additional parking garages and significant updates to existing buildings as well as new technologies to meet student needs, especially in high-demand areas such as health sciences, as well as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.
“We’re off to the races here with our new facilities, expanding our reach, expanding the opportunities to students and the community,” said Dr. Cesar Maldonado, HCC chancellor.
