Preparing and testing for today’s GED easier than ever
May 24, 2014
Getting a GED is now easier and more accessible. The GED® Testing Service has built not just a new test, but a new comprehensive program. Effective in January of this year, the test is now computer-based, with resources available online and is offered in Spanish. All information about the test, the practice tests, course availability, registration and scheduling, payment and results are available on the MyGED™ website at ged.com. The 2014 GED® test is a four-subject high school equivalency test that measures skills required by high schools and requested by colleges and employers. The four subjects are Science, Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, and Reasoning through Language Arts.
The new program provides personalized, actionable feedback when taking the practice test and comes with targeted study recommendations to improve scores. Rather than having to take the exam on certain days, students can take the test they want to take, when they want to take it. Prior to January, students had to wait four to eight weeks before getting their scores, now they are available on the same day. Students can request their transcripts on MyGED™ and get them the same day instead of two to three weeks later. The program also offers college and career transition resources.
After passing the GED® test, a student’s diploma or credential will be issued by the state. Texas issues the "State of Texas Official Certificate of High School Equivalency," which includes the scores, so it is also the transcript the student can use to apply to college, start training or get a better job. The 2014 GED® program ensures that an adult's high school equivalency credential signifies he or she has the skills and knowledge necessary to take the next steps in their life.
HCC hosts five certified GED® testing centers at Central College, Southeast College, Southwest College West Loop Campus, Northeast College Northline Campus and Northwest College Alief Campus. For more information, visit http://www.hccs.edu/adult-education/take-the-ged.
