First groundbreakings for new facilities at HCC

This December marks a significant milestone in Houston Community College’s $425 million Groundbreaker Bond Program. The nation’s second-largest community college will celebrate its first groundbreakings at its Northline and West Loop campuses.

Northline Campus Groundbreaking

Where: HCC Northline Campus, 8001 Fulton, Houston 77022

When: 10-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2

The Northline Campus is a $23.5 million project. It adds 40,373 square feet of space, including an instructional building and a new 476-space, three-story parking garage, to the existing campus, which sits on over two acres of land. The new garage is designed structurally to add two additional levels of parking in the future. The new instructional facilities will include classrooms, labs, an art studio, a fitness-training center, a large lecture hall, a bookstore, a student lounge and administrative spaces.

West Loop Campus Groundbreaking

Where: 5601 West Loop South at Fournace, Houston, 77081

When: 10-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3

The West Loop Campus is an $18 million project that adds a new 768-space parking garage. Total square footage of the project is 208,265 feet. To be located on the west side of the existing facilities, the new building is designed structurally to accommodate two additional levels of parking in the future.

HCC’s Groundbreaker Bond Program is a capital improvement program that involves 14 projects across all six colleges, adding state-of-the-art instructional buildings, additional parking garages and significant updates to existing buildings as well as new technologies to meet student needs, especially in high-demand areas such as health sciences, as well as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
