District VII Newsletter: Dear neighbors

Dear neighbors,

During this season of thankfulness and celebration, I want to take a moment to reflect on this year’s accomplishments as your Trustee for District VII and HCC Board Chair.‌‌

With our unwavering focus on the promises and commitments of HCC, we ensured that our annual budget for fiscal year 2013-1014 got appropriately allocated and presented.  Regarding the $425M Bond Program, we judiciously ensured a systematic progress of the 2012 bond program, while practicing due diligence and performing our fiduciary duty as per the board policies & procedures. All the bond projects have been approved. I want to extend special thanks to all those who remained steadfast in ensuring that HCC offers equal opportunities to all the Houstonians, which has been one of the core principles of HCC.

This year we successfully transitioned from the interim leadership to permanent leadership when we appointed Dr. Cesar Maldonado as our new Chancellor for HCC. We also welcomed four new board members and continue to be a forward-thinking board which puts our students, faculty, staff, and our communities first in our entire decision making process.

We recently opened Alief Construction Technology center at HCC Bissonnet Campus. For HCC Missouri City Campus, we are taking the lead in exploring the possibility of moving the HCC Missouri City Campus from Sienna Springs Way to Texas Parkway to revitalize that area and to increase student access to education.  We have developed a new partnership with the city of Stafford in an effort to create new job opportunities for students and businesses in the growing valve manufacturing industry.

HCC has been a proud institution for 40+ years and we will continue to work together to do the right thing for our students and the communities we serve. As we have done in 2014, we will continue to build a strong, stable foundation for HCC.
